There’s plenty to do in Porto de Galinhas, particularly if you love water sports. Surfing, kite-surfing and scuba diving are really popular. Snorkelling is a fish lover’s heaven in this north-eastern beach town (the best beach in Brazil, so they say) too. However, don’t underestimate the simply joy to be had from getting on a bike and cycling off into the distance.
The following list includes the top three bicycle routes – simply described – in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil. They’re not “official” bicycle routes. They’re my three favourite routes to follow. If you visit Porto de Galinhas at some point, try them out and let me know if you think they’re cool too. More suggestions left as comments at the bottom of this post are, as always, very welcome.
1. Porto de Galinhas Centre towards Maracaipe Beach and beyond
It’s very simple. Wherever you stay in Porto de Galinhas, it is likely that you will end up in the town centre. Make your way out of the centre through all the little back streets until you reach the main road and then head off in the direction of Maracaipe Beach. The route is helpfully furnished with bicycle lanes and the end is never in site. Keep cycling to your heart’s content.
2. Porto de Galinhas Centre towards Muro Alto Beach and beyond
As in the route above, make your way out of the centre, but when you get to the main road head in the opposite direction towards Muro Alto Beach. This route is also blessed with cycle lanes and it is just as infinite as the route above. Both cycling routes are the perfect way to just lose yourself in thought and the best thingis that they are both almost completely flat, which means no effort and maximum enjoyment.
3. The cobbles streets of all the plazas in the centre
If you love flowers, cycling in and around all the plazas in the town centre. Turn off the larger streets and cycling around each plaza in turn. You can happily do this for a couple of hours and stop to take beautiful photos of street flowers as and when you want to.
